Worship
 
Vision:  The worship and music committee exists to plan and support all services of worship.
 
The committee will assist with:
  • hymn selection 
  • selection of worship/service settings
  • planning festival services such as but not limited to: Christmas Eve, Lenten Midweek, Holy Week
  • choosing and purchasing worship supplies
  • overseeing the care of worship instruments
  • the work of choirs, directors and accompanists
  • making suggestions and offering advice to other committees as it pertains to our congregation's worship
  • supporting events/services put on by our choir, band, and bell-choir
 

2018 WORSHIP AND MUSIC REPORT

  • Committee meets monthly at 7:00 PM on 2nd Wednesday of the month.
  • Members: Pastor Cole McCormick, Julie Anderson, Evonne Cook, Rhonda Hansen, Lili Jensen, Karla Lester, Lesa Nauss, Lexie Ruter, Deb Seylar, and Jessi Strom.
  • Average worship attendance in 2018:  110
    • January-May and September-December:  117
    • June-August:  90 
  • Organists/Pianists:
    • Kayleen Farmer, Rhonda Hansen, Linda Wiegman, Paul Wiegman.
  • Alternative Worship Band – 1st Sundays. 9-13 musicians and 3 song leaders. Director: Jessi Strom
  • Choir - 3rd Sundays – September through May. 12 Members. Director: Lili Jensen. 
  • Brass Handbell Choir – 2nd Sundays September through May.  10 Members. Director: Lesa Nauss.
  • Youth led services 4th Sundays. Leaders: Brian and Renae Behrends and Pastor Cole.
  • 26 Servers (crucifers and acolytes) from the Confirmation classes.
  • 15 Altar Guild volunteers.
  • 13 Video Ministry volunteers.
  • 15 Worship Band instrumentalists and song leaders.
  • 15 Church bell ringers.
  • 76 greeters.
  • 21 lesson readers.
  • 45 Communion bread providers.
  • 18 Communion assistants.
  • A number of individuals served as center aisle and side aisles ushers.  Gerald Wallace has served as head usher for many years, and we thank him for his service. Our new head usher beginning in January 2019 is Brian Behrends.
  • Special activity bulletins for children and activity bags are available for preschoolers.
  • Rhonda Hansen coordinated the scheduling of organists/pianists for services.
  • Filled pulpit for Pastor Cole’s vacation Sundays.
  • Purchased new robes for communion assistants, servers, etc.
  • Surveyed congregation about multimedia project. Majority of both surveys indicated this was still a desire of our congregation. Our church council voted to contribute $8000 towards this project from the capital fund and WELCA offered $2000. The congregation was solicited for their help through a continuing capital campaign.
  • A donation was received to provide needed repairs and updates to our pipe organ. The work will be completed before the recital scheduled in October.
  • 8 Lenten Services. Theme: Prayer and Renewal   Attendance average: 77
  • Services of healing were offered on 5th Sunday’s.
  • First Communion Service held on Sunday, March 11, 2018.
  • Confirmation Service held on April 29, 2018.
  • Palm Sunday Processional Service on Sunday, March 25, 2018.
  • Maundy Thursday a Living Last Supper was presented March 29, 2018.
  • Easter Lily Processional for the Easter Sunrise Service April 1, 2018.
  • Confirmation Service on Sunday, April 29, 2018.
  • Baccalaureate Service for our High School graduates May 20, 2018
  • Lutheran Lakeside summer staff was installed at our June 3rd worship service.
  • We hosted Estherville Lutheran Church at our June 10th Polka service featuring “The Notables” from Sioux Falls area.
  • Pastor Cole and Pastor Jeanette did a pulpit exchange Sunday on July 29th.
  • Back to School Sunday August 19th included a backpack blessing for Trinity children and also a blessing for the WELCA school kits.  A special fellowship hour followed including jump houses and other activities.
  • Wrote Berghefer Mission and Ministry endowment application to help fund our multi-media project. Awarded $9000 towards project.
  • Stir Fry lunch was organized and facilitated on October 21 by the Worship Committee with help from WELCA and the Youth. Proceeds were used for our multi-media fundraising campaign.
  • Special service and fellowship hour following Reformation Sunday Service October 28, 2018.
  • Glenn Henricksen provided an organ recital on Sunday, October 28, 2018 in the afternoon. Paul and Linda Wiegman hosted a reception following the recital. The event was supported by a Berghefer Mission and Ministry Endowment grant written by the Wiegman’s.
  • Trinity Women of the ELCA service in November led by Trinity women.
  • November 18 congregation was giving update on multi-media project as we had met our goal for the initial project. Our funding of $21,373.00 breaks down as follows:
    • $8000 from the Capital Improvement Fund
    • $2000 from WELCA
    • $9000 from the Berghefer Mission and Ministry Endowment
    • $1623 from the Stir Fry Luncheon
    • $  750 from donation requests in our weekly bulletin
    • The cost of the basic project by RDI is projected to be $20,020.44.
    •                         $18,710.69 for projector, screen, mounts and hardware, and labor
    •                         $1,309.75 sales tax on equipment and labor.
    • Loren Bates is donating the electrical work needed for the project.
    • Any excess funds will be applied toward the future purchase of a large monitor that will be placed on the back wall of the sanctuary.
  • Seasons of the Church year service on November 25th.
  • Families assisted with lighting of Advent Candles during all Advent services.
  • A memorial Christmas tree was provided honoring those who are no longer with us.
  • Two trial Wednesday mid-week services were held on December 12 (18 attended) and December 19 (31 attended).
  • Sunday School Christmas Program was held on December 16, 2018.
  • Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion services were held at 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM
